-
it may be obvious but NO SMOKING
-
keep the gas compound clear of all combustibles, leaves, paper, oil, grease and chemicals
-
do not store oxidising gases with flammable gases
-
when opening any cylinder valve or isolation valve do so slowly, be aware of the pressure reading and check any new connections for leaks - use soapy water
-
do not tape cylinder threads - it is the bull nose that seals not the thread
-
when opening any valve, open it fully then shut it down about half a turn - the next person can then tell if it is open or shut and it will not jam against its stop
-
keep cylinders chained at all times
-
take care of all cylinder nuts and bull noses, use correct spanners and avoid scratching the face of the bull nose
-
position the cylinder so the pig-tail does not twist or kink
-
set the pressure on a 2-stage regulator (manifold) 5-10 PSI higher than the required work pressure in the laboratory, then reduce it locally - this should allow for a slight pressure drop
-
with any problems ASK
-
relief valves, regulators and pig-tails should be changed every 5 years or earlier
-
a leak-check and basic inspection should be carried out at least annually
-
a competent person should be appointed to check and control your gas installation
-
records must be kept of all inspections and equipment replacement
